Hospitals are an important part of Oregon's economy. Throughout the state, the community hospital is often the largest employer.
According to Apprise's analysis of the American Hospital Association's Survey of Hospitals, Oregon's hospitals directly employed approximately 69,000 people in 2020. The "ripple effect" of this employment is another 83,000 additional jobs for a total of about 152,000 jobs linked to economic activities generated by Oregon hospital.
The effect of hospitals' total expenses on the total output of Oregon's economy is about $27.6 billion.
